This mosaic made of thousands of small marble cubes covered the floor of the exedra (sitting room) in the House of the Faun in Pompeii. A copy of a famous 4th century Greek painting, the mosaic depicts the Battle of Issus in which Alexander the Great defeated Darius III, King of Persia, in 333 B.C.
A portion of a fresco showing a wedding ring on the bride's left hand and wedding bells.
Glass vials used for collecting tears at a funeral, then buried with the deceased.
This large marble statue of Atlas is a Roman copy (of a Greek original) from the second half of the 2nd century A.D. Isn't it interesting that the globe is spherical, long before the days of Christopher Columbus?
