31 January 1980, Thursday

Statue of Liberty Dan Davidson and I departed Little Rock at 8:15 a.m. Our plane arrived at New York LaGuardia at 12:15 p.m. We took a taxi to JFK for $13.30, then went by bus and train to Manhattan for $7.00. We took a ferry to the Statue of Liberty for $3.00. There I ate lunch for $4.79. The subway cost 50 cents each way. Our return to JFK via the train and bus was $6.00. Supper was $5.62. Our plane left JFK at 8:30 p.m. On board we paid $6.00 for use of the headsets.



1 February 1980, Friday

Our plane landed at Dakas, Senegal, at 8:15 a.m. The plane also stopped in Ivory Coast and Nigeria.



2 February 1980, Saturday

Our plane landed in Kenya at 2 a.m. At the airport in Nairobi we got a cup of hot tea for US$1. We departed Nairobi at 8:40 a.m. for Ethiopia, from where we flew to Tanzania, arriving at 2:00 p.m. We each exchanged US$200 to Tanzanian Shillings, getting 1,624.40 plus 8.50 in change. We found ice cream for 37/- (that's 37 shillings or about US$4.60). We arrived at the Kilimanjaro Hotel at 4:15 p.m.
