Handwashing

There was no running water in the patient wards. Between infectious patients we washed our hands as best we could with a bar of soap and a basin of water from the Chimala River. While it was better than nothing, I never felt like my hands were clean after washing them in the dirty water.
Before surgery we scrubbed with running tap water, but it, too, was untreated water from the Chimala River.
