HEADACHE

Is the pain unbearable?
Is the patient under 10 years old?
Has there been pain for more than 24 hours without improvement?
Do you have a stiff neck?
Are you having problems with your vision?
Is there severe dizziness or severe lightheadedness?
Are you having weakness in your arms or legs?
Are you having lots of nausea or vomiting?

ACTIVITIES:  Decrease physical activities until feeling better. You should get plenty of sleep. Try to relax and avoid stress as much as possible.

MEDICATIONS:  Tylenol, aspirin, or Motrin will relieve most headaches. Take no more than the recommended dosage.

DIET:  Usually no changes in the diet are needed. If you think a certain food is causing headache, then it should be avoided.

CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR FOR ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:

1. Unbearable pain develops.
2. Onset of stiff neck, visual disturbances, severe weakness, severe dizziness, or vomiting.
3. No improvement by tomorrow.
