When I was a young bride I was very proud of my cooking ability. I always tried to make things extra special. One day special company came and I was preparing dinner. I had an iron pot of green beans on the stove with a ham bone in them. They were simmering away on the old wood cook stove and in those days you simmered beans at least three or four hours. They smelled so good. I thought how proud I'd be of my cooking. Well as I started to dish them up in front of my company, lo and behold, my dish rag came up on the spoon. Needless to say, we didn't have beans or meat that night. I'll never know how that dish rag got into my beans. Mellie Smith |
